Volume 1
Edited by Alfred J. von Frank
Introduction by David M. Robinson
"Von Frank has provided a painstaking edition with useful notation and a
highly detailed chronology of the period of Emerson's life covered by
the volume. David M. Robinson's general introduction is a lucid
treatment of the sermons in their historical context, which is probably
the best available short treatment of Emerson's ministry. Highly
recommended."--Choice

Volume 2
Edited by Teresa Toulouse and Andrew H. Delbanco
Volume 2 includes a detailed chronology of the events in Emerson's life
during the months between July 1829 and October 1830. Explanatory
footnotes, textual endnotes, and a comprehensive index further add to
this significant contribution to our understanding of one of America's
foremost thinkers.
"The high standards of the first volume . . . are maintained here,
with full but unobtrusive documentation along with judicious and clear
annotation. A major contribution to American intellectual and religious
history. Highly recommended."--Choice
1990. 432 pp. 6 1/8 x 9 1/4. Index. Chronology. ISBN 0-8262-0746-4.
$49.95s.

Volume 3
Edited by Ronald A. Bosco
The forty-five sermons collected in Volume 3 were composed and first
delivered between October 1830 and November 1831. During that time
Emerson's first wife, Ellen Tucker Emerson, died of tuberculosis, a loss
that deeply affected Emerson.
"Like its predecessors volume three of Emerson's Complete Sermons
is a model of accuracy and textual editing. Like them also the last
third ('Textual Notes') includes Emerson's revisions, cancellations,
supplements and related documents--all requiring great editorial
patience. We owe a large debt to the team of scholars under the
captaincy of Albert J. von Frank for ushering into print, after a
century and a half in limbo, this block of important manuscripts."--American
Renaissance Literary Report
1991. 432 pp. 6 1/8 x 9 1/4. Index. Chronology. ISBN 0-8262-0797-9.
$49.95s.
Volume 4
Edited by Wesley T. Mott
The final volume in the series focuses on a crossroads in Emerson's
life, the year 1832, when he resigned from his ministry at the Second
Church of Boston. It includes a new and more accurate text of the single
most important of Emerson's sermons, "The Lord's Supper Sermon."
1992. 496 pp. 6 1/8 x 9 1/4. Cumulative Index. Appendix. Chronology.
ISBN 0-8262-0859-2. $54.95s.
