Shades of Blue and Gray Series

Following the very successful publication of Herman Hattaway's Shades of Blue and Gray: An Introductory Military History of the Civil War, the University of Missouri Press is proud to announce a new series by the same name. Edited by Herman Hattaway, Professor Emeritus of History and Religious Studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Jon L. Wakelyn, Professor Emeritus of History, Kent State University, and Clayton E. Jewett, Adjunct Professor of History at Austin Community College in Austin, Texas, the Shades of Blue and Gray Series will offer Civil War studies for the modern reader—Civil War buff and scholar alike.

Military history today addresses the relationship between society and warfare. Thus biographies and thematic studies that deal with civilians, soldiers, political leaders are increasingly important to a larger public. This series will include books that will appeal to Civil War Roundtable groups, individuals, libraries, and academics with a special interest in this era of American history.
